Frequently Asked Questions

What is Power Cut Live?

Power Cut Live is an independent, community-driven power outage tracker for India. People report power cuts and restorations for their six-digit pincode, and everyone can see live status, recent reports and outage history.

How do I check if there is a power cut in my area?

Type your six-digit pincode or area name in the search box, or tap the location button. The pincode page shows the current status, a reliability score and every report from the last 24 hours.

How do I report a power cut?

Open your pincode page and tap “Power cut”. When electricity returns, tap “Power is back”. You can add a short note, for example about voltage fluctuation or a sparking transformer.

Do I need to sign up or share personal details?

No. Reporting is anonymous. We do not ask for your name, phone number or address. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How accurate is the status?

The status reflects what people have reported in the last few hours. More reports from different people, and more recent reports, give a higher reliability score. Reports can be incomplete, delayed or wrong, so treat them as signals, not official data.

What does “Resolved automatically” mean?

If nobody reports “Power is back” and there are no new power-cut reports for 24 hours, the outage is closed automatically. A new power-cut report reopens it straight away.

Does “No recent reports” mean power is available?

No. It only means no one has reported recently. Coverage depends on people in your area using the service.

Is this an official DISCOM or government service?

No. Power Cut Live is not affiliated with any government body, DISCOM or electricity provider. For complaints, restoration estimates and safety issues, contact your electricity provider directly.

Where do planned outage schedules come from?

Planned outages are compiled from notices published by electricity distribution companies. Schedules change often, so always confirm with your DISCOM.

Where can I complain about a power cut?

Contact your DISCOM. Many electricity providers accept complaints on the national number 1912, as well as via their website, app or WhatsApp. Your electricity bill lists the exact helpline.

Are the bill calculators accurate?

They give indicative estimates based on benchmark tariffs. Your actual bill can differ because of subsidies, fuel adjustment charges, meter rent, time-of-day rules and taxes.

Why can I not report again immediately?

To keep the data clean, each device can report the same pincode once every few minutes.

How do I contact you?

Use the contact form (link in the footer) for questions, bug reports, corrections or partnership enquiries.
