How It Works

Power Cut Live is a crowd-sourced power outage tracker for India. Anyone can report a power cut or restoration for their six-digit pincode, and everyone nearby can see what others are reporting in real time.

1. Search your pincode or locality

Type a pincode, post-office locality or district in the search box. Each pincode has its own live page, and larger pincodes have separate pages for each locality.

2. Report a power cut or restoration

Tap Power cut when electricity goes out and Power is back when it returns. Reports are anonymous: we don’t ask for your name, phone number or exact address. To keep the data clean, each device can report the same pincode only once every few minutes.

3. How the status is calculated

When the most recent reports say the power is out, the pincode shows Outage reported. It stays open until someone reports Power is back, or until 24 hours pass with no new power-cut report. At that point it is marked Resolved automatically. Every new power-cut report restarts the 24-hour clock, so a long outage stays open while people keep reporting it. With no recent reports, the pincode shows No recent reports. That does not prove that power is available.

4. Reliability score

The reliability score (0–100) reflects how many different people reported and how recently. One report from an hour ago scores low; several matching reports from the last few minutes score high. Use it as a confidence signal, not as a guarantee.

5. Planned outages

Scheduled maintenance shutdowns are listed by state and by electricity distribution company (DISCOM). Always confirm timings with your DISCOM, since schedules change at short notice.

Limitations

Community reports can be incomplete, delayed or wrong. For official information, safety issues, complaints and restoration estimates, contact your electricity provider. Many DISCOMs accept complaints on 1912. Please verify your local helpline.
